The FACTS don't lie.​​ Hutchinson is Smallville.

-In the television series, Smallville, the town is shown to have a population of 45,001.  As of the 2010 census, Hutchinson's population is 42,080.

 

-In the graphic novel, "The Kents", Smallville was mentioned as being along the Arkansas River.  The Arkansas River runs along the southwest side of Hutchinson.

-In Action Comics #822, Lois and Clark are seen driving through Kansas, back to Smallville.  A mileage sign says that Smallville is 57 miles away from Salina, Kansas.  Hutchinson is 55 miles from Salina.

​

-A popular spot in Smallville is, The Talon, a historical, restored theater that now features a coffee shop.  The Fox Theater, in Hutchinson, is on the National Register of Historic Places.  It is called "The State Movie Palace of Kansas" and is a local landmark.  The Fox also underwent a restoration in the late 90's and now features a bistro and concessions.

-The Talon closely resembles Hutchinson's Flag Theater.  The marquees are similar in shape and the color scheme on the buildings are identical.

​

-The Talon's address in Smallville is 220 Main Street.  The Fox and The Flag theaters are both within one block of this actual address in Hutchinson.

 

-The Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center is a Smithsonian affiliated museum, in Hutchinson.  It's the perfect place to store Kal-El's spaceship.  It's the only space museum in the state and visitors frequently go there to watch eclipses, comets....and METEOR SHOWERS.

 

-The Kansas Underground Salt Museum is the deepest museum in the Western Hemisphere, at 650 feet below ground.  The mines are strikingly similar to the Kawatche Caves in Smallville.  The Museum also holds and preserves treasured memorabilia from entertainment history, including the Superman costume, from The Adventures of Lois and Clark.

-Hutchinson is famous for salt, which explains the museum.  Smallville is famous for meteor rocks, mainly Kryptonite.  White Kryptonite is harmless to Superman and humans, but it kills plants.  Salt has the exact same effect.

​

-In Season 7 of Smallville, the town is celebrating the 100th Annual Harvest Festival.  Hutchinson is the home of the Kansas State Fair, which celebrated their 100th event in 2012.

 

-Smallville High School's mascot is a bird.  Hutchinson's is too.  According to the television series, the Crows won their first state title, in football, in 2004.  The Hutchinson Salthawks won the state title in 2004.  It was also the first in school history.

​

-In the series, Smallville, they show a Greyhound bus that is going to Wichita, Kansas.  A Greyhound bus route goes through Hutchinson, on it's way to Wichita.

​

-Smallville is the county seat of Lowell County.  Hutchinson is the county seat of Reno County.

​

-Smallville has Clark Kent.  Hutchinson has Clark Road and Kent Road.

​

-Smallville's downtown is centered around a park and a gazebo.  Avenue A park, in Hutchinson is the center of downtown and frequently features musical acts at the gazebo in the park.
